Picking The Right Studio

5 things to consider when picking a recording studio.

All Studios Are Built Different

Before worrying too much about budget, determine what your goals are. What are the basic requirements you and your team need to make the best out of your studio experience. Do you need large-format mixing console? Maybe just a computer with a 2-channel interface. Once you have an idea of which equipment you need, set your budget accordingly and start the search. Our Long Beach Recording Studios offer a variety of different options for gear each coming with their own pricing. A simple rule of thumb is more gear + bigger space = bigger budget.

Finding The Best Studio Near You

When you look for the next studio to record at, consider convenience and quality. Most recordings are made with a team so keep commute in mind and consider a location that is central to most if not everyone collaborating. Most times you can find a recording studio near you and our network offers a variety of locations. In most cases, you will have to compromise quality and commute. Luckily that is not the case with our Long Beach Studio locations.

Finding Studios With The Best Equipment For You

If you're a podcaster, singer, part of a band, or even looking to do ADR for a film then your gear requirements are probably very different. Our studios are all equipped differently. Podcast rooms include smaller isolated environments while our large tracking rooms were designed to accommadate larger bands. Just tracking vocals? No need for a large console. Instead use one of our dedicated vocal recording studios. Regardless, it is important to know which gear you plan on working with to make the best decision when picking a studio near you. Genre can have a huge influence in this as well. Consider doing some research on what others in your particular style are using.

Is Bigger Better?

In most cases, it is most important to find a space that accomodates your team. If you have a large production then it is typically beneficial to get a larger room unless you are doing minimal tracking and the team is primarily non-music related. Smaller rooms have some isolation benefits but in general larger rooms allow instruments to reverberate more naturally when acoustically treated well. Small isolation booths can often serve most effective for vocal recording and overdubs for voice and television. Are you planning to record a classical piece? Most stringed instruments often need room to breath and larger studios often provide the proper space.

The Best In The Business

When picking the best recording engineer for you you must consider the following: musical taste, chemistry, experience, & price. Our engineers care and make sure they deliver you the best product possible. Even our interns are crushing it. Regardless it is important to consider the styles of each individual engineer.
